Well That Was Weird, Number 1

I've had a fair few not-fully-explainable experiences and after a talk from and discussion with a totally sceptical paranormal psychologist (whose experiment I broke, because my brain is atypical) in the summer I wanted to write down some of them. This is an account of the most resent, but probably least creepy.

Assassination

I had weighed up the consequences long before I had carried the idea to fruition. I had plenty of models to base my analysis on. They say history repeats, and history said that my plan, if successful (never mind if it wasn’t, that was a whole other barrel of not much fun), could do one of several things. Most of these things were pretty unpleasant for everyone; myself, my friends and family, the country at large. Hell, one such plan in the past had lead, so the books tell us, to a very nasty war.

I had set it all out in detail and gone through every possible scenario. I had planned the timing to coincide with the right events in world and local politics to bring about my desired result. I had picked the perfect place, with the perfect witnesses. I had been working on this for months. I had seen the events unfold a hundred times in a hundred ways in my head.

Yet there I was, with a thin flint blade in my hand and blood on my shoes and not a single thought in my head except “I just took a life.”

Final Fantasy VII, Life Ever After; Chapter 10 Destroyed

So, I just got around to putting te last few chapters of this on here. It's pretty old and I can't be bothered editing. Though, to be honest, I'm so out of practice that it's probably better than anything I could write now, almost ten years on.

Well, this is it; the final chapter. Hope you all enjoyed reading this as much as I enjoyed writing it.

Wyna's pic for this one: Intercepted... which I can't find on the interwebs or in my own collection any more so... damnit. That was a nice picture too!

I dread to think how many times this has been done before... but I couldn't help myself.

Final Fantasy VII, Life Ever After; Chapter 7; Secrets

I have no images for this one either.

Tseng and Elena... always getting left for dead. And how does Vincent know so much about the Silver Haired Men?

Being Kind

I've cried a fair bit this morning, reading all of the tributes to Robin Williams on Twitter and Facebook. He lifted the hearts of millions, was a friend to many without ever meeting them. He made us happy, and he made us grab life. Now he's gone and the reports are that it was by his own hand.

There are, then, nestled among the tributes to his warmth and work, people talking about depression, anxiety and suicide. People talking about how they were held back from the brink by a few words, a hug, a person just being there. Most of all the idea of kindness has come up.

Be kind.

I haven't always succeeded, but I have tried to be kind. I want to make people smile (that's why chose catering as a career). I'm not the class clown but I try to make people laugh, when I can. You might not think it, but this attitude does save lives.

Make people smile.

I know that I have, completely without trying or even knowing it at the time, saved two friends' lives. One heard me yelling obscenities at the VHS player down the hall in student digs and laughed, which put an end to their plans right there. Another simply heard my voice in their head, doing my usual tough love thing.

I wasn't even there, but my past actions held them back.

Be kind. You might save a friend's life.

Olive Oil; Apparently It Makes Some People Super Angry

I was buying bread in Co-op yesterday for work. I was wearing my work uniform, which, granted, does look a bit like the Co-op uniform. There's usually a little stand by the door with bread and olive oil for tasting. Yesterday it only had bits of bread on it.

A guy in his fifties, maybe sixties, came over to me, pointing angrily at the little stand and demanded to know what it was for. The conversation pretty much went like this;

Agents of SHIELD Names and Meanings

So, the UK just witnessed the shitstorm that was Turn, Turn, Turn. Ooooh, yeah, that was a fun hour on Twitter. I won't spoil anything, but let's just say that a lot of people turn (hah) out to be something we were not expecting. A lot of people. Good to bad, bad to good... good to bad to good and bad to good to bad... and, well it made some heads spin.

The double crossing and old TV story telling "are they/aren't they" got me thinking about names though. Whedon's characters are often given bizarre names that, when looked into, reflect the character perfectly, or with hindsight reveal something the audience did not realise was there.

There's a good article about Whedon and character names in Finding Serenity, a collection of essays on Firefly... but I can't remember which one and my copy is hiding in a box somewhere. Anyway, an example would be; a river is unpredictable, not easily controlled, but also a source of life and energy, just like River Tam. Another example would be willow; easily bent but so hard to snap. Rosenburg means "mountain of roses"... yeah, I got nothing for that so moving swiftly on...

POSSIBLE MINOR SPOILERS!! For Turn, Turn, Turn and onwards.
